Business Description
The name, which conjures up images of gaming tables today, had a broader connotation back then. The founders' purpose was stated clearly: social meetings, and "mental and physical advancements, enjoyment and recreation." In other words, an athletic club where members can come, feel at home and socialize with people in their community. The mission The Casino set for itself was to be a family and community club, with social events (although a real kitchen was not added until the 1950s) and facilities for tennis and squash. It was an important commission, perhaps the first building specifically built as an indoor tennis club in the country. Today, The Heights Casino continues to offer tennis and squash facilities alongside fine dining, entertainment and a high-end Fitness Center facility with various fitness options. The Carol Weymuller Open and The David C. Johnson Jr. Memorial Squash Tournament are just two of the many athletic events the club hosts annually, which bring athletes from all over the world to Brooklyn Heights.
